The company was set up in 2007 by Flavia Aarden-Kilger. A native of Canada, until now has worked most of her working life in Europe, she knows the realities of convential companies. Having worked for high-end diamond jewellery companies as a production manager and purchasing manager, she knows the crunch facing commercial companies. Due to high labour costs in Europe, she was responsible for moving production to Thailand, without compensating in quality. It was soon after completing this project that she got involved in fair trade. First as a purchasing and quality manager for handicraft products, and later as an export manager for fair trade foods and handicraft products.

Colleagues within Fair Trade Brokers as well have the combination of a commercial background and the fair trade and organic. We know the issues facing conventional commercial companies and the challenges of working with fair trade and organic certified producer groups in developing countries. It is the combination of these three specific fields that we have worked in that makes us unique. We work as a commercial entity with fair trade and organic ingredients and products.

With our experience in the commercial as well as the fair trade and organic world, we understand the challenges all parties face. Companies want their products as inexpensive as possible but are at the same time facing facts that consumers are aware. They are aware of situations for farmers in developing countries as well as the many chemicals used in conventional farming, and only want to bring whats best to their dinner table. Regarding our skin care products, women only want natural ingredients, to feel nature's best on their skin.

Fair trade and organic products are fast becoming a way of life, a choice, for many people. Supermarkets are looking for the right manufacturers, but are finding that it is both time consuming and difficult to find certified fair trade and organic products. We do know. And we have our systems in place to serve you!
